Please take a moment to consider some of the places you’ve set your handbag down…. Did you see the ABC news piece a few years ago about how disgusting the bottom of your handbag is? I try to avoid thinking about stuff like that because I’m a germophobe, but I admit I’ve allowed that news story play on my mind.
Bottom line? The bottom of your purse is a breeding ground for any and all manner of microbes including — you guessed it — fecal bacteria! With such a cornucopia of microscopic nasties hanging out on the floors, anything you can do to keep your handbag off the floor will help.
Purpose: To keep your pretty girlie purse off the dirty, nasty floor when you’re dining out. It’s also keeps you bag right next to you rather then the back of a chair for thieves to snatch up.
Pros: Cute, Clever, and available in several patterns/colours. Holds up to 10kg. I’ve tested my fully loaded handbag and it has held brilliantly!
Cons: I haven’t found any cons, but if I do, you’ll be the first to know.
Value: Protects your purse and piece of mind; protects your home from germs.

Per Se was rated as the 6th best restaurant in the world and no. 1 restaurant in the Americas last year. Per Se, from renowned chef Thomas Keller, debuted in February 2004 in the Time Warner Center building at Columbus Circle in New York City. With striking views of Columbus Circle and Central Park, the dining room is a rare blend of open space and easy intimacy, discreet drama and understated luxury. Per Se has refined and redefined the dining experience. It certainly did for us. We were fortunate enough to get a reservation (usually required 3 months in advance) on our recent holiday in New York. Can’t say I’ve ever had a meal quite like it! The food is beautifully conceived, elegantly presented, and as varied as the colours of the rainbow. The two tasting menus comprised of 11 incredible options. There were many great memories of the night – including the mini ottoman provided to rest our clutches on. Great attention to detail! xx

{MOTHER’S DAY 2010}

I heart my mum – kind of like NYC, but not. So much more though, it’s a different – quiet and excitedly and ever so constant. There’s no one in the world like her (how beautiful is she????). No one can make beef stroganoff quite like her. No one can hug quite like her and no one has better chat about not much at all than my mum. She’s a rock. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her – it’s pretty easy to do as you’ll never meet anyone quite like her. This isn’t the point of this blog, but I couldn’t let this opportunity go without giving her a shout out. Love you Mum!!

Okay, so back to where I was going with this one… Mother’s Day. It’s only a month away, Sunday 9^th May team. It feels like we’ve just said ciao to Christmas and sayonara to Easter. Is it commercialised? Yep. Should we show our mums we love them any or every other day of the year? Definitely. Do we? Hmmmm, probably not as often as we should. Don’t get all guilty on me… Just think of it as an opportunity to make a choice either today or tomorrow or on Mother’s Day to do something about it… It’s a day to let her know how much she is appreciated and loved.

You don’t have to spend a bomb to make her feel like the most loved mum in the world.

For example: take our bling handbag hooks.. They’re half price between now and Mother’s Day. They come beautifully packaged already.. Add in a hand written note… Pure gold – tick!
Or, perhaps she’s a bit of a funkster and loves her clutch bag when lunching with the ladies.. Throw in a photo of the kids in there… Done!

ALL THAT SHIMMERS {JEWELLERY}

I’ve always loved things that sparkle. Sparkly shiny objects. There’s something mesmerising about them. Have you ever made yourself go cross-eyed and stared at something sparkly? If you haven’t, don’t judge, just try. It is seriously mesmerising. Sunlight on water, crystal chandeliers, sparklers, champagne bubbles, the diamantes on my tutu when I was 5 – maybe that’s where it all stems from?

{Simple pleasures} – one of the inspirations of our vintage bling jewellery range.

It doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. That’s so not what we’re about at {Made by Sam}. Take our ‘shine like the stars of the universe’ earrings. They’re $40 right? They’re the shimmer in my workplace most days. So let’s think about cost per wear (my favourite way of justifying many of life’s important purchases). If you wear them to work for 12 months (let’s say), well you’re only paying 15 cents per wear. Bargain of the century!

Moral of the story: Whether you need that ‘oh so expensive designer-look’ piece of bridal jewellery, the perfect headband for the races or a quick fashion fix for that Friday night on the town always give us a visit because you just never know what sales might be lurking round the corner. In saying that, we might just leave our Valentine’s Day sale items up for a bit longer. x

HELPING HAND FOR {HAITI}

Thank you for ordering with us this month. You have just made a donation towards the relief effort in Haiti. As you may or may not know, we are donating 50% of all our profits in January and February towards this cause.

A powerful earthquake of 7.0 magnitude struck southern Haiti on Tuesday 12 January, rocking the capital Port-au-Prince. The quake was followed by two strong aftershocks. Reports indicate that 50,000 people have died, while three million have been affected.

Our team were (and still are) feeling completely helpless in the wake of the devastation, so we’ve decided this is how we are going to make our contribution. We’re not usually into shameless self-promotion, but please tell and encourage your friends to purchase in January and February, so that we can increase our donation.

May all those involved be touched by healing and hope.
